Welcome to the idyllic Olavsberget swimming area (Badeplass), a popular destination located by Olavsberget Camping and the beautiful Eidanger Fjord in Porsgrunn. This is the perfect sandy beach in Telemark for a day with family and friends, whether you prefer playing in the sand, diving from the tower, or sunbathing on the coastal rocks (svaberg).
Facilities and family friendliness
Olavsberget is known as one of the best and most child-friendly swimming spots in the area:
- Swimming Area: You will find a large, beautiful sandy beach, green lawns, and smooth coastal rocks/cliffs (svaberg) for varied sunbathing and swimming.
- Child-Friendly: The area is shallow (langgrunt), making it safe and ideal for the smallest children.
- Activities: For the more adventurous, there is a diving tower and a pier/jetty. A floating jetty near the pedestrian bridge over to Kattøya also has a swimming ladder.
- Services: Shared service facilities are available, including modern toilets and a handicap accessible toilet.
How to Get to Olavsberget
Olavsberget swimming area is conveniently located only about 6 km from Porsgrunn city center.
- Car and Parking: Follow National Road 32 (Riksvei 32) out towards the E-18 (turn off before reaching the E-18, see local directions). Parking is arranged approx. 200 meters north of the campsite.
- Bus: Take Bus route M2 from Porsgrunn. Check routes and schedules at farte.no.
- Location: Easily accessible via Nystrandvegen.
